Professor of LGBTQ+ Studies and Education

Greg Miraglia is a professor of LGBT studies and education. He authored numerous credit and not for credit courses on the LGBTQ+ community that are part of college degree and certificate programs. Mr. Miraglia’s pioneering work in this area began in 2004 with the publication of a book about being LGBT in law enforcement. In 2009, he created the Safe Space Program at Napa Valley College and began development of the second credit LGBT Studies certificate program in California. This work continues and so far has lead to:

Three additional books about being LGBT in law enforcement and public safety
Three instructor guides and one student workbook for LGBT awareness for law enforcement
Development of a credit 2-year degree program in LGBT education
Development of four unique credit certificate programs in LGBT education
Development of six credit courses in LGBT studies
Development of an LGBT awareness for law enforcement basic and training for trainers course
Development of an LGBT Law Enforcement Community Liaison Academy
The writing of a first-of-its-kind state law requiring LGBT awareness for law enforcement

Not For Credit Courses Developed

Mr. Miraglia’s face-to-face LGBT awareness for law enforcement classes include immersive experiences that bring students into the LGBTQ+ community to see the history and engage with community members in-person. All of the law enforcement courses integrate the principles of procedural justice and community policing.

Many of these courses are available in fully online formats and accessible to participants anywhere in the United States. Some courses are restricted by law to California residents.
